07/07/08: Choc-a-blockWork has progressed getting the track feeds connected up. Two track buses, one each for the up and down lines, will run along the layout. Having stripped some nice thick red and black cable out of old flat ‘twin and earth’ mains cable to use as bus wires I have found that new supplies are unobtainable as in the last year or so some idiot has decreed that the cable colours should be harmonised. Inter-baseboard connections will be by phono plugs using ready-made leads linking sockets mounted at the ends of each board. The bus wires run along the board dasiy chaning through ‘choc block’ terminal strips(purchased from Screwfix in packs of ten for little more than the price of a single one at the local DIY store). Other electrical connections are by way of the 25-way ‘D’ socket visible at the bottom of the photo - this is half of a cable that has had the outer casing stripped off. Meanwhile work continues on fitting DCCar decoders. I have set up a separate workbench page recording the work involved. |
