27/06/08: On Track

The trackbed mentioned in the last update now has track on it and a Class 25 has happily pottered up and down to prove that it all works. The trackbed is 9mm MDF with cork floor tiles glued on top, followed by a paper track template (courtesy of the excellent Templot software). The track is SMP OO with a panel of three copper- clad sleepers at the baseboard edges to help keep the rail in place.

The curved section on board 8 is an oddity as it has been designed to be removable so that the final layout can be converted from an inside viewed to an outside viewed one for exhibition purposes (should that ever be required).

Each length of rail has two feed wires so that if one fails things should still work. If they both fail then I will need to brush up on my wiring skills! As yet they are not connected up, hence the outbreak of lurid coloured creepers worthy of an episode of Doctor Who.

In the meantime it is back to buildings and buses.
