01/06/08: Laying Down The BlacktopHaving fettled, fixed and fiddled with the roadways on boards 6 & 7 I have been able to cover them, in best Blue Peter tradition, with sticky-backed plastic and slopped a bit of Faller's road paint over the top. This, combined with a little tinkering on board 5 (the bus station) means that I can start to put the railway trackbed in place on the right-hand half of the scenic section (if urban grot can be called scenic that is). Work has also started (or recommenced) on some of the buildings for this half of the layout. Whilst I used various Hornby Skaledale buildings on the mock-up many will be replaced as construction progresses. I have added a new Town section to the website which will document the various edifices to be found in the area. The Borough Council Offices have been covered with Scalescenes brick paper as I didn't think I could paint the moulded brickwork anything like as well. They started life as a Heljan kit of a Synagogue. Honest! It makes a lovely example of local authority red-brick ostentation. Back down Queen Street towards the bus station the corner shop, which on the mock-up was a Skaledale R8624 Harold's Lader is being replaced with a Scalescenes kit for a mini-market and Fish & Chip emporium. |
